What to Expect on a Shadow Day

When will shadowing occur?

Shadowing dates are available on most Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, September 30 through May 15. Tuesdays are “Late Arrival” days, so the schedule is different (see below).  Please check in 10 – 15 minutes before school starts in the reception area of the Middle School (#2 on campus map) or Upper School (#4 on campus map). We will be watching for you! Campus map.

Tuesday Schedule All Day* Half Day (through lunch)
      8:50 am - 3:05 pm 8:50 am - 12:40 pm
Thursday/ Friday Schedule All Day Half Day (through lunch)
  8:00 am - 2:55 pm 8:00 am - 12:30 pm

*Entrance exams are scheduled for some Tuesday mornings at 7:30 am. Students may stay and shadow for the day after the exam. If you wish to take advantage of this option, please schedule and entrance exam and shadow day for the same day. Click here to see exam schedule.

Who will the student shadow?
Students will shadow at their current grade level, except 5th graders will shadow in the 6th grade, and 8th graders will shadow in the 9th grade.  Students shadowing in the Middle School may request a host; every effort will be made to accommodate the request. In the Upper School, a shadow will be hosted by a Cascia student who is actively involved in the school’s hosting program. If possible, visiting students will be placed with a Cascia student who has similar interests in academics, athletics, and/or extra-curricular activities.

Is there any paperwork to complete in advance?
Please sign up for a shadow day using our online registration. You will be contacted by the school one week prior to your visit with more information. At that time, you will be asked to complete a Shadow Day Permission Form and bring it with you when you check in the day of your visit. It is not necessary to complete an application or to test before shadowing.

What do shadows wear?
Student visitors may wear their school uniforms when they shadow.  If they do not have a school uniform, they are asked to comply with the Cascia Hall Dress Code guidelines as much as possible. Most of the time, Cascia students are in Full Dress; Fridays are Relaxed Dress, and Spirit Dress is “as announced.” After you register for a shadow day, you will receive more information regarding the dress code for the day of your visit. Do shadows need money for lunch?  What should they bring?
Lunch will be provided in the Dining Hall for visiting students. Snacks are also available (free of charge) in the morning at break time except on Tuesdays, when there is not a morning break.  Menu information

Shadows may bring pencil and paper or their laptops for academic use.  They may also want to bring a book in case a class is testing. Please see section 509 of the Student Handbook for more detailed information on allowed personal devices.

What is the next step?
We certainly hope your student will have a good shadowing experience and that you choose to move forward in the admissions process.  If you have not already done so, the next step would be to schedule an entrance exam and complete an application.  Once the test results are in and the application is complete, you will be contacted to schedule an information interview with the school principal. Complete an Application for Admission.

Who should I contact if I have more questions?
Please contact Jane Easley in the Office of School Advancement, 918-746-2641, jeasley@casciahall.com.
