The
Middle School functions to introduce 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students to
a traditional liberal arts curriculum which, at this level, serves as a
foundation for studies in the Upper School.
The Middle School emphasizes the self-motivation, self-discipline, and
self-responsibility required to master the intellectual and human skills
necessary for future studies as well as for life.
The students' regular schedule begins at 8:00 a.m. with prayer and
announcements. Their regular day consists of seven 45-minute classes with a
15-minute morning break and 30 minutes for lunch, concluding at 3:05 p.m. On
Tuesdays, classes begin at 8:50 a.m. and dismiss at 3:05 p.m.
The regular exams are coordinated and scheduled by the faculty so that
students will not have more than two tests per day.
The California Achievement Test (CAT) is administered annually to all Middle
School students with the results being sent home to parents in late spring.
All Middle School students are trained and certified
annually in CPR and eighth grade students take
part in "Operation Aware".
The traditional Cascia Hall program is college preparatory, emphasizing the
liberal arts. Cascia Hall offers the
Upper School student a variety of courses,
the completion of which prepares the student for entrance into college.
To provide a challenging curriculum for Upper School students, who vary in
ability from the average to the gifted, the basic courses are divided into
approximately three levels of difficulty, which culminate in an extensive
Advanced Placement program.
Each regular day begins with a 10-minute chapel service which consists of
silence, prayer, scripture, homily and flag salute. Attendance is required of
all students.
Following Chapel, a student's regular schedule consists of seven 45-minute
class periods, a 20-minute activity period and a 35-minute lunch period. The
academic day ends at 2:55 p.m.
Athletics are scheduled from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m daily.
On Tuesdays, Upper School students begin their academic day at 8:50 a.m. and
are dismissed at 3:00 p.m.
To avoid too many tests on one school day, there is a regular day of the week
when the students can expect to be tested in each academic subject.
