The Music of Climate Change

In general chorus, students have been studying music that provides a voice for the voiceless. Last week, they studied music that discussed domestic violence. This week, they shifted to music that spoke of climate change.
On Tuesday, Mrs. Coonfield shared music with the students that was actually written to represent climate change. The pitches, speed, and tones were all correlated to scientific data about the earth: temperature, CO2 levels, etc. The resulting music painted a very clear picture - you could actually hear the changes the earth has been going through. Students noted that despite not having a traditional melody or words, the resulting music had an almost visceral effect on the listener. On Thursday, students listened to music in the popular sector that was about climate change, with various artists singing songs that promoted the protection of the earth.
