Everyone is reminded that Wednesday, October 10, is our annual “testing day” for 9th, 10th, and 11th graders. The sophomores and juniors will take the PSAT (preliminary SAT). The PSAT is the qualifying test for juniors for National Merit Scholarship consideration. It is also excellent practice for students before they take the SAT for college admission. Seniors will be excused that day from school. The following are a few important items to remember regarding testing day:
Students will be allowed to have “relaxed dress” that day.
Students should bring two #2 pencils and their math calculators. MECHANICAL PENCILS ARE NOT ALLOWED BY PSAT FOR TESTING!!
Students should arrive between 8:00 and 8:15 to check into their respective testing rooms, so that attendance and preliminary test information can be announced. The opening prayer will be at 8:20 and testing will begin at 8:30. Students who arrive after 8:30 will not be allowed to test. There will be no make-up exams.
Students are encouraged to get plenty of sleep the night before and to eat a nourishing breakfast before coming to school. Students are welcome to bring a healthy snack from home to eat at one of the two short five-minute breaks. Most students should be finished with testing and released between 11:30 and 11:45 a.m.
The PSAT actual testing time is 2 hours and 45 minutes. The test is comprised of a Reading test, as well as Writing and Language, Math with no calculator, and Math with Calculator. The preliminary student information sections will be completed a few days before the test.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the PSAT, please feel free to contact Lisa Oliver at 746-2609.
