Parental Choice Tax Credit

In May 2023, Governor Kevin Stitt signed the Oklahoma Parental Choice Tax Credit Act. The act provides refundable Oklahoma state income tax credits of $5,000 to $7,500 per child to parents whose children attend private schools. Effective in January 2024, the parental tax credits will tremendously impact families now in Catholic schools and those considering Catholic schools. With the new funds available to families, the diocese expects greater demand for Catholic education.

Letter from Shawn Loader, CFO

Cascia Hall is pleased to confirm our participation in the upcoming Parental Choice Tax Credit program from the State of Oklahoma’s recently passed legislation. This program provides relief to families who choose to send their children to an Oklahoma private school by providing an income-sensitive tax credit between $5,000 and $7,500 per tax year. The application process for this program will open December 1, 2023, and will require submission of an affidavit of enrollment from the school and your 2022 income tax return (either Federal or Oklahoma filings).  Checks will be mailed to the school in the applicant's name beginning in the spring of 2024. The school will contact the applicant when the check is received. Applicants will need to endorse the payment to the school. The school will then apply it to the student's tuition account.

The state has allocated $150 million for this program’s first year. Applications reflecting family income less than $150,000 will be given priority access to these funds. If funds remain after the priority tier is processed, applications will be considered in the order received.

Tulsa-area Diocesan schools are hosting two sign-up and information-sharing events for this program at Bishop Kelley High School. Cascia Hall will have representatives participating in both of these events. Additionally, we are in discussions to host a similar event with our friends at Monte Cassino and other independent Catholic schools to provide an additional opportunity for our shared communities to benefit from this program.

We have linked to resources from the Oklahoma Tax Commission on this webpage and will use this as a resource for communicating new developments and FAQs experienced both at the state level and within our community.

The CH Business Office, Administrative Team, and Board are excited for this program to come to fruition. We thank you for being part of our community and look forward to helping you navigate this promising new program.

Regards,
Shawn Loader
