Fiacable '24 Attends DNA Research Camp

Cascia Hall 8th-grader, Joey Fiacable, attended a one-week DNA Research camp held at the University of Notre Dame in the Jordan Hall of Science.
Dr. Stark led a class of 16 8th and 9th graders from different states and countries in many scientific experiments and research that included: maternal background ancestry from mitochondrial DNA; tested different types of food to see if it was Genetically Modified (GMO); tested plant Genomes; DNA Extraction of Plants and Humans (Himself); Tested Alleles for muscle type to see if you are a sprinter (RR), an endurance runner (XX) or a bit of both (RX); Tested Plant types (ex. Parrotia persica) and much more! The students stayed in the dorms and enjoyed all that the University has to offer! He loved the camp and can’t wait to go next year!
