Classical Choral Concert

On March 4, Cascia's classical choral concert will feature great masterpieces reflecting varied interpretations and cultural realizations of concert level religious music, much of it specifically related to Catholicism.
Command Performance, Cascia's select vocal ensemble, will be performing Cesar Franck's Panis Angelicus and two movements from Andre Thomas's Mass: A Celebration of Love and Joy.  Frank's work is beautiful and lyric, steeped in some of the finest European choral traditions.  Thomas's work is a brilliant fusion of twentieth-century classical, gospel, and jazz.

The general chorus will be performing the famous Gloria by Ariel Ramirez. This work, part of a larger work entitled "Misa Criolla," is entirely in Spanish and incorporates numerous Argentinian dance rhythms. Finally, both groups combined will perform part of Mozart's Requiem K626. This dramatic work is one of Mozart's last and features the extremely dark and exciting "Dies Irae".

In addition to all the great choral music, Casica's own Margaret Barbour will be performing the first movement of Mendelssohn's violin concerto, a work she recently competed with to win first place in a concerto competition. This fiery work is one of the most well-known violin concerto movements and is sure to be an exciting start to the evening!

Please join us for this wonderful evening of music in Cascia Hall's PAC on March 4, 2020, at 7:00 pm.  The concert is free and open to the public and will last approximately 1 hour.
