College Board Update on AP Examination

Dear Parents and Students

AP exams will continue, although they will be modified. Each exam is 45 minutes long and individual subject teachers have been informed about what skills and units will be assessed and they will prepare our students accordingly.
The exam will be administered online and at home. Parents are advised to provide students with a quiet place at home where they can take the exam with clear access to wifi, if at all possible. Students should log on 30 mins before the exam is due to start and they will have 45 minutes for the exam and an additional 5 minutes for uploading. College Board will be providing online tutorials and are preparing simulations so that students can become familiar with the exam beforehand.

SSD (Accommodations)
Any students entitled to extended time will have that automatically applied and all students now have the option to type their answer. Any specific questions regarding students with special disabilities should feel free to contact our SSD coordinator directly DColeman@casciahall.com

Exam Only
Students at Cascia who are “exam only” should be sure to take the time to look at the College Board website to understand what course-specific changes apply to them.

Connectivity At Home
Students will be able to take the exam on any device, or multiple devices; phone, tablet, desktop, laptop. Although they must begin and submit on the same device, and switching devices could waste valuable time, so it is not recommended. Students who may have connectivity issues or problems at home have been invited to contact college board directly for advice before April 24th

Security
College Board is aware that students will have access to textbooks, notes, and search engines. They have therefore specifically designed their tests so that no one using these aids would have an unfair advantage. College Board will only be asking “fair and valid questions.” College Board will also be using various security measures to make sure no student can collaborate with or impersonate another student. They would not divulge all their security measures but anyone discovered cheating or planning to cheat will be reported to all the universities they have applied to. Click here for more information about their security measures.

College Credit
Colleges have agreed to recognize the efforts already applied by our students for the preparation of these exams and will award credit for an AP score of 3 or above. All students at Cascia Hall must take the exam they are enrolled in but no student is obligated to put that score on their transcript.

Fees
Although the exam is shorter there will be no reduced price of the College Board exam fee. College Board expects to surpass their usual expenses in order to cover the security software, exam rewrite, as well as the cost of rapidly building new platforms - they actually anticipate doubling their scoring costs but have the means within themselves to offset this expense.

Exam Dates
Exams will take place Between May 11th - 22nd. If there are problems on the day of the exam or if there is a genuine reason why a student cannot take the exam on a given day there will be one alternative date offered in June. Again individual teachers will relay this particular information to their students and prepare them for these changes. The exam schedule is here.

Our students have worked hard all year for these exams and it is only fair that they get this opportunity to demonstrate their learning in the most favorable circumstances that College Board can provide and it is only fair that Colleges should recognize this.

We are blessed at Cascia Hall with very capable, resilient, and diligent students who will do their best in whatever circumstances they find themselves. If you have any further questions please contact any of the following:

US Principal - Shawn Gammill

We are here to support you and our students in truth, unity, and love.
